Pakistan is the leading producers and exporter of leather and leather products of various types. During the last 20 years, the industry has flourished by using trained and skilled operations.

The improvements are being made in the quality of material and the production is being continuously updated to meet the changing demands in the world market. The percentage share of leather in total export, was 8.1% in 1998-99.

The industry has a potential to increase exports to 1 billion dollars in a span of ten years by promotion of leather footwear. The propaganda of use of child labour is now adversely effecting this industry..
